Gilbert Isbin and Iep Fourier's CD is entitled Avoid A Void, and the album offers compositions/improvisations for classical guitar and hurdy-gurdy with multi-cultural, folk and jazz influences. Fourier, fascinated by drone music, began playing traditional instruments in the late '70s. Quickly he tried to use these in a broader context than traditional music. The acoustic, as well as the electric hurdy-gurdy became his main instruments and very soon he recieved international recognition from the folk scene as well as the contemporary and improvisation music scene. Isbin's early influences, from classical, to folk, jazz, blues, ethnic and freeform music, have ultimately contributed to his now distinctive and refined style. His music transcends the dualities of classical/jazz and composed/improvised music and is filled with strong melodies, rich colourful harmonies, sound effects and polyrhythms, highlighted by his delicate acoustic guitar picking.
