About The Guitar Nine Interviews

Maybe the best way to get an idea of how to accomplish dreams of releasing your own records and starting a record label are to have a conversation with someone who has already done it. Guitar Nine Records is proud to present interviews with guitarists who have taken the first steps to getting their music heard, without waiting for a record deal. These musicians have struck out on their own and everyone thinking about going down that same road can learn something from them. We've also included interviews from noted guitarists who have spent time in both the indie world and as 'signed' artists.

What's Your Story?

If you are an independent artist with one or more independent releases, and you would like to be interviewed about your musical goals and your experiences running a record label, please e-mail us.

  • Interview: Dino Fiorenza (2012)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"I had several proposals with major labels, but now the music business is really hard - no one does anything serious for you."

  • Interview: Guitarsnake (2011)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"Today it is quite hard to set yourself apart in the instrumental rock domain. There are a lot of great guitarists! Unfortunately, lots of them do the same kind of stuff."

  • Interview: Jarle H. Olsen (2011)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"Instrumental music is pure and real music! It has all the focus on the music and not on some cheap love story. The most exquisite music does not need words to express itself."

  • Interview: Hedras Ramos (2011)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"I believe the Internet it's a great window to the world, it's a great tool to communicate with other musicians, and people who can help you with your career; it's definitely great for business!"

  • Interview: Christian Muenzner (2011)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"Phrasing is what makes the big difference between just mindless noodling and a great guitar solo in my opinion. Think more about which notes you play and when you play them."

  • Interview: Alex Ehrsam (2011)
    Interviewed by Guglielmo Malusardi
"I got picked up by Mike (McDowell) at Shred Guy; apparently Mike was interested in adding a "fusion" flavor to his rather "metal" guitar-oriented label, and my sound seduced him."

  • Interview: T.D. Clark (2011)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"If you want respect, get out of the music business (laughs)! If you love what you are doing, it will show and you will gain respect. People who buy records like how songs move them no matter the skill level."

  • Interview: Marcos De Ros (2011)
    Interviewed by Guglielmo Malusardi
"To play in places where they cannot pay the expenses for an entire band, I travel with only my guitar and a CD where I have my own backing tracks. And I noticed that the public reacts very well to these concerts!"

  • Interview: Salvo Vecchio (2011)
    Interviewed by Guglielmo Malusardi
"Well, the Internet is a great thing, everyone now can have their own spot and sell their music. But it is becoming a jungle where everyone just thinks about themselves. There is too much quantity, and too little quality; too much competition instead of collaboration."

  • Interview: Nili Brosh (2010)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"I still discover a lot of music by word of mouth, seeing what my friends are listening to. I have always bought music and still do."
pic
  • Interview: Stuart Hamm (2010)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"I am very fortunate to know and have worked with an amazing variety of musicians, so I can write a piece of music with someone in mind."
pic
  • Interview: Patrick Vega (2010)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"What works for me is a real life approach mixed with the internet stuff. The Internet by itself is just digital overkill for all of us suffering from ADHD. Everyone has 47 social media profiles, a web page, and ends up sitting in front of the computer all day."
pic
  • Interview: Stefan Artwin (2010)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"If you have gathered some musical experience by actively making music, you listen to music in another way. You are able to hear everything and not only the lead instrument or vocals."
pic
  • Interview: Michael Abdow (2010)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"I personally love to hear melody and hooks in solos as well as lyrically slow/wide vibrato and story-telling phrasing capped off with shredding licks that make you want to fall to pieces."
pic
  • Interview: Tristan Klein (2010)
    Interviewed by Dan McAvinchey
"Music is a language, it comes from your soul and your body. I'm not hung up on technique or theory; that's why I love Santana as much as Vai. What they play just comes from the heart."
