Mateus Starling is a Brazilian guitar player and composer that offers a distinctive voice to the world of jazz-fusion guitar. His approach to improvisation, rhythmic concepts and compositions is getting worldwide attention. Starling graduated from the Berklee College of Music, majoring in performance, studying under great teachers like Mick Goodrick, Hal Crook and David Tronzo. He then recorded his debut CD, Kairos, in 2008. Kairos has been considered one of the best albums in the jazz-fusion genre in the past few years. Articles and reviews have been published on the biggest magazines and music blogs, such as Guitar Player, Cover Guitar, Axe Magazine (Italy), Ultimate Guitar, All About Jazz, and others. Returning to Brazil in 2009, Starling has already had the opportunity to play and record with top musicians and producers. He also plays with his group (Mateus Starling Quartet), and as a freelancer in live shows. Starling currently records, writes lessons for the Brazilian magazine Cover Guitarra, and offers video classes with many different approaches for improvisation.
