The Sheryl Bailey 3's Live @ The Fat Cat was recorded on November 18-19, 2005 at one of NYC's most respected jazz havens. In front of a full house of enthusiastic SB3 fans, this well-oiled jazz machine demonstrated what this band is all about. There are a few favorites from past releases. A ripping version of "Starbrite" ("The Power Of 3"), plus two of the trio's most requested tunes: "Elvin People" and "Swamp Thang" ("Bull's Eye!"). The disc opens with an exciting, uptempo burner, "Cedar's Mood" - an ode to the great Cedar Walton. Next is a moody waltz dedicated to guitar great John Abercrombie, "A Soft Green Light". This piece pays homage to the guitarist with it's exotic harmonic motion and lyrical melody. The trio plays as one mind through the twists and turns of the modal form. The fifth track, "Dance Of The Dream Maker", is a compelling tale unraveled by the masterful storytelling skills of the trio. Another up-tempo number follows with "Tune Down", followed by a heartfelt ballad "The Wishing Well" - a tribute to Klezmer clarinetist David Krakauer. Instrumental Guitar (Electric/Fusion/Jazz), total running time, 64:10 - Sheryl Bailey 3 @ iTunes!
