Refuge, from Ohio-based guitarist Steve Pappas, is a collection of instrumental works featuring the classical guitar. The songs contain a blend of Folk, Spanish, Classical, Latin and Rock influences - beautifully performed and elegantly presented. Impossible to pigeonhole stylistically, Refuge has World Music moments such as the Irish folk sound of "Star Of The County Down" or the Spanish edge of "La Noche Cai Suavemente", but also features overdriven electric guitar and drums on the more eclectic songs such as "Refuge", "Danza" and, once again, "La Noche Cai Suavemente". Pappas also includes solo pieces which are more classical in nature, such as "New As The Dawn" and "Song For Mary". A very diverse CD which reflects a life's worth of experiences and emotions.
