Mahavishnu Orchestra

"Visions Of The Emerald Beyond"

The Story
For composer-guitarist Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, fusion was more than a musical movement. "Visions Of The Emerald Beyond" applied McLaughlin's transcendent artistic aspirations to sensual, earthbound impulses, drawing Indian and European classical traditions, jazz explorations and rock certainties into communion. "Visions Of The Emerald Beyond" features McLaughlin's escape-velocity guitar, Jean-Luc Ponty's slashing violin and Narada Michael Walden's drum barrages. With singer Gayle Moran (on three cuts), riffing horns, and a string trio supplementing his farthest-reaching group, Mahavishnu John McLaughlin strives to resolve the tensions between raga and the blues, funk and orchestral sonorities in his glorious 1975 release.
