The Undiscovered: Matthew P. Smith

Matthew P. Smith is circulating his eleven song instrumental CD-R entitled Red Light District.. The album features all original tunes in a rock style, where he incorporates elements of funk, metal, blues and classical into the compositions. The production is rough-and-tumble, typical of home-brewed first efforts, and the lack of a real drummer is a problem with material in this style. Smith likes to incorporate scorching guitar solos into his work, which is influenced by artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Buckethead, Jeff Healy, Jimi Hendrix, Al De Meola, John McLaughlin, Paco De Lucia, Stanley Jordan, Rusty Cooley, Adam Fulara, Marcel Coenen and Shawn Lane. Smith probably has a lot more CDs in the pipeline - with more experience in the recording process some good things are bound to happen.

Born on August 15, 1979 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Matthew's family moved to Vancouver, B.C. - and he still resides there today. He bought his first crappy electric guitar from a friend during his first year of high school. Shortly, he discovered his love for the instrument and began spending hours upon hours learning and practicing. Matthew kept himself busy learning the basics until grade 10, where he decided to join the music department's jazz band. Around 1994, he also began looking for band mates to start his own band - which lead to 'E.B.E' aka 'Electric Blues Euphoria' (which is still running strong today). The group began playing talent shows, Battle of the Bands, and other events. E.B.E. eventually won a musical competition that allowed them to open up for The Matthew Good Band. He continued to play in the jazz program throughout high school. In 2003, Matthew decided pursue his own solo career.

Smith is now a university student (and has been for several years). He continues to play guitar religiously and balance his time between work, school, his beautiful girlfriend, and his band.
