Classical guitarist Susan McDonald plays the works of Paganini ("Grand Sonata In A Major"), Bach ("Second Violin Partita In D Minor") and Barrios ("La Catedral") on The Cathedral, her 1995 album. New York Concert Review said of the CD, "...all the skill and insight that a Bel Canto master brings to a Bellini cadenza..." and "...masterful Bach playing." Recorded at a Texas convent, the music blends Paganini (who was said to be in league with the devil) and Bach (who has been said to remind us of God), reinforcing in the listener that all passions ultimately have the same source, and that the enjoyment of listening to such music transcends such questions of original artistic motivation or inspiration.
