Greasy New Orleans Blues

Cookin' In Old Grease, the latest CD from New Orleans bluesman Jeff Chaz ("The Bourbon Street Bluesman"), kicks off with "I Can't Get Lucky With You", a song which sets the tone for the CD with a couple of greasy slide solos. But the guitarist and vocalist is no one-trick pony, as the two fiery solos on "Instrument Of Pleasure" will attest - Chaz's knuckle-busting chops are always at the ready to send guitar fans into delirium. He's backed by a crack backup band as well; the funk on "I Smell Somethin' Funky" is expertly played, and will surely remind you of your last pass (or pass-out) down Bourbon Street. This is a CD full of good times, hot guitar work, a sense of humor and Chaz' vast musical experiences and background - don't wait until you're in New Orleans, contact Chaz today and pick yourself up a copy. Jeff Chaz was originally profiled in the February-March, 2005 edition of The Undiscovered.

Jeff has traveled and played the blues for many years! Originally from Creole, Louisiana, his travels finally brought him to the Home of the Blues, Memphis, Tennessee, where the favorite music of his formative years began. While in Memphis, Jeff won the first Beale Street Blues Society award, and played many festivals in the area. For a short time he toured playing guitar with rock n' roll great, Jerry Lee Lewis, and with the Blues Master, the late, great, Albert King, with whom he gigged briefly playing trombone in the horn section. According to Jeff, "Working with Albert greatly influenced my style, especially my string bending. He was the wildest at that I've ever seen, and a terrific vocalist. As far as entertaining, Jerry Lee taught me not to be afraid to do anything!" Jeff moved back to New Orleans in 1997. "The Louisiana dirt was calling me back" he states.

Chaz' unique style of blues incorporates the style of Memphis combined with the mixture of New Orleans rhythms. "It is Memphis barbecue meeting up with New Orleans gumbo," he quips.
