We Saw A Bozo Under The Sea
The Story
"We Saw A Bozo Under The Sea" is a surprise attack of guitar dessert from Zoot Horn Rollo, the original guitarist from Captain Beefheart's Magic Band (who recorded the memorable "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" and "Trout Mask Replica"). Here Zoot teams with drummer Gregg Bendian to produce an all instrumental fusion guitar classic which displays his mind bending chops and great compositions, as well as the musical inspiration of Thelonius Monk (several Rollo originals are reminiscient of Monk's shuffling rhythms and angular melodies). Violinist Brian Price performs on several tracks, and Tony Proveaux contributes harmonica to one song. Writer Brian Coley concludes with, "We Saw a Bozo Under the Sea is an immaculate distillation of music from the mind and hands of a wonderful guitarist that many of us had suspected to be lost in the winds of time. Thankfully, it was not so."
