Forty years ago, the legendary first contact between Carlos Santana and Paul Reed Smith took place backstage during a Santana concert at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia. This was the beginning for a long-term and creative partnership between Carlos Santana and Paul Reed Smith.
Reason enough for Paul Reed Smith to celebrate this remarkable alliance of two congenial partners under the motto "Celebrating History" with exquisite new editions of the famous "Santana guitar". The "Santana Retro SY 10 Top" version is a successful homage to the early "Pre-Factory" guitars. Great care has been taken to ensure that the unique design elements of the original have been faithfully reproduced in this model. Body, neck, saddle and headstock are exactly the same as the guitar that Paul Reed Smith built for Carlos Santana in the early 80s. Of course with the "Birds" fingerboard inlays well-known for PRS and the beautiful "Eagle" inlay on the headstock. The pickups used here are specially designed TCI "Santana" pickups that come damn close to the sound of the original.
The "Santana Retro SY 10 Top" is not just a guitar, but a piece of living rock history. This guitar is interesting for players and collectors alike and promises an impressive increase in value. Carlos Santana himself described this guitar as "an accident of god" at the time and said that Paul Reed Smith would never be able to build such a good sounding guitar again.
